Your First Visit: What to Expect
During your first appointment with our office, we will examine your teeth and gums to determine the type of dental care you need. Generally, your first visit will include:
- Full Mouth set of x-rays
- Oral cancer screening
- Thorough periodontal & tooth exam
- Time with Dr. Kadohiro or Dr. Barba to discuss the findings
- A care plan personalized just for you
Dr. Kadohiro or Dr. Barba will then talk to you about our findings and any oral health concerns or goals you have. They’ll also answer your questions and discuss different treatment options for your needs. Based on your conversation, Dr. Kadohiro or Dr. Barba will create a personalized care plan for you
New Patient Forms
For your convenience, you may complete new patient forms ahead of time and bring them to your first appointment. Call us at 808-667-7711 to set up your new patient appointment and request to have the new patient forms sent to you.
Insurance, Billing & Policies
Insurance and Financing
Lahaina Smiles Dental currently accepts HDS, HMSA, and HMAA insurance plans. We are not participants in Medicare or HMO plans. If you have questions about your benefits, please give us a call to learn more about how you can maximize them with our office.
For any out-of-pocket payments, we accept cash, checks, and credit cards. We also accept flexible financing options, such as Cherry and CareCredit.
Insurance and Billing
Because we do not render services under the assumption your insurance company will cover our fees, all professional dental services are charged directly to the patient. You are responsible for paying for any expenses not covered by insurance.
If the patient is a minor, the parent or guardian present will be responsible for payment.
Appointment Cancellation Policies
Because we value our patients’ time, if you miss your scheduled visit, you will be charged a $100 cancellation fee. If you need to reschedule your appointment for any reason, please call our office at least two business days in advance so we can accommodate you.
Additionally, if you do not confirm your booked appointment with us, the appointment will be subject to cancellation.
HDS Dental Insurance
HDS Insurance Coverage
Our dental office in Maui participates in HDS PPO plans. Most HDS PPO plans cover the following:
- Diagnostic and Preventative Services – dental exams, cleanings, fluorides, sealants, and x-rays (all plans provide 100% coverage for exams and cleanings, excluding tax)
- Basic Restorative Services – dental fillings
- Endodontics – root canals
- Periodontics – gum surgery, scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance
- Oral Surgery – tooth extractions
- Prosthodontics – dental crowns and dentures
- Total Health Plus – additional cleanings and fluoride treatments for those with high-risk medical conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and pregnancy.
Dental Insurance
Dental insurance plans will vary based on what you’re enrolled in. Often, dental plans will have varying maximums, deductibles, and waiting periods, and cover different procedures at different rates. With so many challenging factors, navigating dental insurance and what it covers can be confusing, but at Lahaina Smiles Dental, we make the process easy!
At our Maui dental office, we’ll assess your current insurance and explain what you can expect your plan to cover. We’ll work with you to ensure you pay as little out-of-pocket expenses as possible. We’ll also take care of the filing and claims process for you.
All we need is your current insurance card; we’ll handle the rest!
